Founded in 1989 by the Business Design Centre in Islington, the London Art Fair has grown into one of the UK’s leading events for Modern and Contemporary Art. Held annually at its original venue, the fair has expanded from its inaugural showcase of 36 UK galleries to over 100 galleries exhibiting today, attracting more than 25,000 visitors. The fair has become a cornerstone for Modern British Art while embracing an increasingly international and contemporary perspective, featuring galleries from around the world.
The London Art Fair nurtures collecting at all levels, from affordable prints and editions to major works by internationally renowned artists. Notable sales at the fair have included works by Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Theodore Ereira-Guyer, Derek Jarman, and Charlotte Keates. The fair is also a platform for emerging talent, having showcased artists early in their careers, such as Chris Ofili and Jenny Saville, who received ‘rising star’ awards at the 1996 edition.
The extensive gallery line-up at the London Art Fair highlights a wide range of artworks, from emerging talent to well-known art world favourites, complemented by an inspiring programme of curated talks, panel discussions, and artist insights. Since 2014, the fair has partnered with a regional museum each year to create unique exhibitions that provide visitors with a deeper understanding of regional collections and their significance. In 2025, the London Art Fair is pleased to partner with The Sainsbury Centre, a world-class art museum based at the University of East Anglia, to explore how art fosters cultural dialogue and exchange.
Additionally, the fair’s curated spaces, including Encounters, Platform, and Prints & Editions, offer visitors expert insights into innovative curatorial practices and contemporary art. Encounters showcases the next generation of artists and gallerists, Platform presents galleries featuring both overlooked and emerging artists aligned with an annual theme, and Prints & Editions offers a curated selection of galleries dedicated to limited editions and photography, highlighting both emerging and established names in printmaking and publishing.
The recognition of printmaking in the international art market has grown significantly in recent years, with a marked increase in both demand and sales. According to the 2024 Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report, global art market sales reached approximately $65 billion in 2023, showing a slight decline from the previous year but still higher than pre-pandemic levels. Prints have become increasingly popular, with prints sales contributing significantly to this growth. The report also highlights that the global online art market reached $11.8 billion in 2023, up 7% from the previous year, with print editions seeing substantial growth in online platforms. This growing demand for prints is a testament to their increasing importance in the contemporary art world, both as collectible objects and as vehicles for artistic expression.
LAC’s participation in the 2025 London Art Fair marks a significant milestone as it showcases an exclusive selection of signed prints by its represented artists. These limited-edition works provide collectors with an opportunity to acquire unique and high-quality pieces that highlight the diversity and creativity within the collective.
LAC’s presence at the London Art Fair underscores its ongoing commitment to supporting and promoting global artists. By offering this exclusive selection of signed prints, LAC not only continues to expand its role in the contemporary art world but also creates new opportunities for collectors to engage with and acquire works that represent both artistic innovation and cultural relevance.
